ーChingay Parade Comm 2023ー
The Chingay Parade 2023, sponsored by the People’s Association (PA) to celebrate the Chinese New Year, was held on February 3rd (Friday) and 4th (Saturday) at the F1 pit. This year was the 21st time for JAS to participate in this event.
In 2021, it was a virtual parade held digitally to prevent the spread of Covid-19, and in 2022, a small scale parade was held at the Jewel indoor artificial waterfall. This year, a total of approximately 3,000 performers from various groups participated as the event was held outdoor for the first time in 3 years.
The PA’s theme of 2021 “Light of Hope” parade, which was canceled due to pandemic, and the 50th Chingay parade’s theme “Ignite our Dreams” in 2022, followed by this year’s theme “Embrace Tomorrow” make a trilogy. With the theme of cherishing the present, embracing tomorrow with hopes, dreams and confidence, and building a brighter future, JAS paraded with the flag of “Kizuna”.
We had a large group of approximately 180 participants, including JAS committee members, dance performers and Japanese Drum Group members. For this year’s performance, Mr Kawashima Kensuke arranged “Singapore Ondo” which was composed by Mr Kinoshita Michihiko in 2002. The “Singapore Ondo 2023” was sung by singer Ryna and performance based on Bon Odori was choreographed by Ms Aoki Yumiko. JAS’s performance raised an excitement in the venue and received excellent reviews of “very unique, outstanding and wonderful!” from others.
We would like to thank the volunteers, the participants and all who were involved for your kind support.
