Block printing is a special form of printing which was first developed tin China. Cotton printed fabric was traded through India and Babylon as well as Indonesia,Malaya and the Far East. In India this process came to begin around the 12th century.
Objective: To learn how to use a wood block to print on fabric, you can choose between cushion covers, tote bags or tea napkins.
Beginning with a brief history of wood block printing in India, participants will be introduced to one of the oldest methods and techniques of printmaking
Participants will be shown examples of hand cut wood blocks and will be given a demonstration of this style of print making on fabric and paper. Over 100 motifs to choose from!
The participants will then practice printing on paper, and also choose to print on either a cushion cover set of 2, or 4 tea napkins or a tote bag.
