The Effective Acupoints To Good Health

A major tenet of TCM is the belief that humans are part of the universe and there exists an internal universe within us that always strives to achieve a balance and harmony with the external. Drawing upon their observations of the ocean current – the movement of winds in continuous and directed movement in a periodic pattern, influencing weather conditions – they postulated the existence of an energy or Qi movement in our body that is also continuous, directed and periodic movement.

We call this movement of Qi in our bodies the Meridian-Collateral system– it’s your body’s Qi superhighway! Just like ocean currents – which can be categorised into surface oceanic currents, deep oceanic currents, south equatorial currents of the Atlantic, horizontal and vertical currents – the meridian-collateral systems of the body also have their corresponding nomenclature which are named after the body’s visceral systems as well as the nature of their respective meridians.

Qi is the material basis and energy for our bodies’ life activities. Just as ocean currents serve as conveyor belts transporting warm water from the equator to the poles, and cold water from the poles back to the tropics, Qi uses the body’s Meridian-Collateral System to transport and distribute itself throughout the body. It warms, nourishes and moistens all organ visceral systems and tissues, and maintains normal functions of the body.

Where there is disharmony of Qi in our body, Meridian treatments such as acupressure, acupuncture can be used to trigger regulatory actions of the meridian system by reducing what is excessive, or reinforcing what is deficient to regulate the body and maintain its equilibrium.

let’s look into the three effective acupoints for general health maintenance; they are:
