Summer Festival Open House Sports Festival Chingay
The 21st Summer Festival was held at the Japanese School (Changi) on 23 Aug (Sat). Unfortunately, it rained from morning till night and puddles of water in the field made it impossible to dance around the stage which was specially set up for this event. However our worries about the turnout of the members were unfounded and we saw participation from over 5000 people who refused to let the rain dampen their spirits. Although the Natsu Matsuri was scheduled to start from 6pm, some Singaporean students started to queuing for the "day tickets" from as early as 1:30pm. Braving the rain with umbrellas in hand, these young people formed a long queue until the gate opened to let them in at 4pm.
This year, games, food and other booths selling a wide variety of goods were set up in the school compound. Due to the rain, it was decided that the bon odori dance would be held at the sports hall instead of the field and thus all programmes were held in the school building, which was filled with excitement!
Before the bon odori dance, Taiko club members, Japanese school students and Polytechnic students put up many performances on the stage of the sports hall.
This year, many Singaporeans also joined our members in the bon odori dance.
A big thank you goes to all the volunteers for their great assistance and the companies for their generous donations!
