The annual JAS Open House and Charity Bazaar was held on Saturday, 30 November. The event was graced by our Guest of Honor, Mr. Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Family and Social Development and Second Minister for Defence. It was also
attended by many distinguished guests including Ambassador Takeuchi and Mrs. Takeuchi.
There was a large variety of booths and activities that livened up the Open House and made things exciting for all those who attended. In addition to yearly staples such as Nomarin’s Picture Storytelling, the Karaoke Contest, Tea Ceremony, flower sales,
origami, Igo, tree nut exhibition and sales, yukata-wearing, sushi fair and oden fair, we also had a Shougi corner for the very first time this year. There were also a booth selling souvenir fans with photos. Not only that, we also had vendors from Japan selling items such as nagashi somen, fresh vegetables, Butadon (a specialty of Tokachi, Hokkaido), soba dorayaki made and sold on the spot, Hokkaido ikameshi (squid rice) and herring roe, salmon roe and Tokoname-yaki ceramic fortune cats.
Donations to the Charity Bazaar included handmade crafts from 41 groups and companies, 15 individuals and 2 instructors; homemade confectionary from 7 individuals and 3 groups; vouchers from 9 shops and 3375 new and recycled items donated though the Box of Hope placed on the 1st floor of the clubhouse.
56 volunteers came to help out on the actual day, and with 1273 customers, the Bazaar was a major success.
All proceeds from the Charity Bazaar and a portion of profits from the Open House will be donated to charity. We would like to thank everyone all for your support for this event.
