[Mr. Shinoharu Tatekawa’s profile]
A rakugo performer by trade, Shinoharu was born in Osaka in 1976 and raised in Kashiwa City in Chiba Prefecture. He joined Mitsu & Co. Ltd in 1999 after graduating from Yale University in America. 3 years into his working life, he experienced a life-changing encounter with Tatekawa Shinosuke and made the decision to enter the rakugo trade after 6 months of deliberation. Despite the initial outright rejection, he went ahead and quit employment and redoubled his efforts to beg Shinosuke to take him in as a disciple. He became Shinosuke’s 3rd disciple in October of 2002 and advanced to full-fledged performer status in January 2011. His range of performances spans over classic, new and English storylines and he even performs overseas in areas like Singapore. He was awarded an honourable mention in the 2013 Annual Nikkan Rakugo competition. He is the author of “English Rakugo that will make anyone laugh” (published by Shinchosha) as well as “’Does your presentation have a MAKURA?’ Tips for work found in rakugo” (published by Seikaisha). His latest publication is titled “The courage to destroy oneself” by Cross Media Publishing.
