私が、先ほど開催されました特別理事会で、2011年度の日本人会会長に選出されました安野健二です。仰せつかった大役の重さを強く認識しております。私は、ちょうど1年前、2010年4月に三菱商事のシンガポール支店長として着任し、ほどなく、日本人会の副会長という立場を拝命し、爾来、その立場から、柴田会長・柴田体制をご支援申し上げるべく、活動してまいりました。

そういう意味では、一年を通しての日本人会の活動の内容に数多く触れる機会はあったわけですが、副会長の立場と会長という立場では、その重さが全く異なると認識しております。また、一年間の活動を通じて、本当に、当国における日本人会の役割の重要さが身に沁みて感じられ、妙な表現で恐縮ですが、むしろ、昨年、右も左もわからない状況でそうした立場をやらせて頂いたほうが、かえって、気楽に出来たのではないかと思うくらいです。

　わけても、名会長である、柴田会長の後というのも大いにプレッシャーが掛かる要素のひとつです。柴田会長は、いかなる状況下においても、冷静かつ的確な判断をされ、また、あの親しみ易いお人柄をもって、シンガポールに生活しておられる日本人に安心安全快適という環境を維持・拡充されるという明確な目的の下、極めて円滑に、当日本人会を運営されてこられました。この場をお借りして、僭越ながら皆様方を代表して、柴田前会長のご功労に感謝の意を表させて頂きます。

さて、新年度についてです。新年度と申しましても、勿論、日本人会は、その長い歴史の中できちんとした活動のベースがあるわけで、そうした基本活動の部分、すなわち、当国で生活される日本人の皆様方の教育・生活面に関する活動、また、日星の様々な分野における交流といった活動やイベントについては、従来通り、また、場面によっては、それ以上に、活発な活動が行なえるように粉骨砕身、頑張らせて頂くことは、当然のことです。

　然しながら、今年度は、こうした事に加えて、まことに悲しいことではありますが、東北関東大震災という未曾有の災害に見舞われた日本の現状があります。本日、ご出席の皆様におかれましても、ご家族・ご親族など、遠く離れた当地から案ずるしか術の無い、何とも表しようのないやりきれない気持ちをお持ちのことと思います。こういう中で、当地のシンガポール人を含めて、内外の皆様から、実に暖かい、心のこもった支援の手を差し伸べて頂いている事は、本当に感謝の念が絶えません。そうした、皆様からの暖かいお心遣いを含めて、今、改めて、日本人として、こうした厳しい状況において、何が出来るか、何をすべきかと言うことを問い続けていきたいと思います。そして、そうした中で、日本人会として出来る事は何なのかということについても、是非、皆様方と共に、悩み、考えさせて頂きたいと思っております。今回の災害で受けた傷を癒していくには、年単位での時間が必要だと思います。しかし、日本人の力を持ってすれば、復興は必ず叶うというのが、私の耳にも入ってくる世界中の一致した見方だと思います。しかし、そうした事を成し遂げて行くためには、そうした世界の信任を得ている日本人として、海外と如何に交流し、更に大きな信任を得ていくという努力も必要であろうと思います。

　当地シンガポールでの日本人としての活動を通して、そうした日本の良さを理解してもらい、益々、日本に好意的な気持ちを抱いてもらうことも重要な要素であると思います。

長々と申し上げましたが、要するに、従来から果たしている日本人会の重要な役割を十分に果たしつつ、それを深化させることによって、日星関係の益々の発展に寄与し、活動の幅を少しでも広げられればと考えている次第であります。

　しかしながら、斯様な活動は、理事の皆様、及び、諸先輩方のお力添え無しには、絶対不可能です。最後に、皆様方の、絶大なるご協力とご支援をお願いして、私の就任の挨拶とさせて頂きます。どうぞ、よろしくお願い申し上げます。

 I am Kenji Yasuno, the newly elected President of Japanese Association for the year 2011 at the Special General Committee meeting which was held earlier.

 I am strongly aware  of the responsibility of this important role being assigned to me.

It was just a year ago in April 2010 that I assumed the post as the general manager of Mitsubishi Corporation' Singapore office and shortly after, I was appointed as the Vice-President of the Japanese Association. Since then,  have  been involved in supporting President Mr. Shibata and his structure from that standpoint.

 In this sense, I had opportunities to be exposed to year-round activities of the Japanese Association and came to recognize that the responsibility is quite different between a president and a vice president.

Through the activities over the past year, I have truly understood the vital role of Japanese Association in Singapore. Please pardon me if this does not sound appropriate, but I almost found it easier to carry them out from my previous stance, when I was less aware of how great the responsibilities were.

 In particular, being the successor to the reputed President Shibata is also a major attributing factor to my pressure.

President Shibata was able to make calm and appropriate judgments under any circumstances and with his friendly personality, he has been able to manage the Japanese Association very smoothly with a clear-cut goal to maintain and expand the comfortable, safe and secure living environment for Japanese living in Singapore.

 I wish to take this occasion to express our gratitude to the immediate past President Mr. Shibata for his achievements presumptuously on behalf of everyone.

 Well, let us talk about the new fiscal year.

 Even in the new fiscal year, the Japanese Association which already has a foundation of well-organized activities over the years, I will do my very best without question for most of these basic activities, ie, activities related to education and lives of Japanese living here, and the exchange activities and events between Singapore and Japan in various areas to continue or even be more active depending on the situation.

 However, in addition to these things, Japan is tragically hit by the unprecedented disaster of the Great Northeast-Kanto Earthquake this year.

 I believe that everyone present today who are far away from your families, relatives and etc have inexpressible feelings of helplessness and anxiety.

 I am very grateful that at such time, many people including Singaporeans as well as those at home and abroad are extending their warm support compassionately.

 With the warmth from everybody, I will continue to ask myself what I can offer and what I should do as a Japanese in such difficult situation.

 And under such circumstances, I would like to share the worry and feelings with everyone on what the Japanese Association can do.

 It will take years to heal from the wounds of this disaster. However, as what I have heard, I think the whole world agrees that recovery can be realized with the power of the Japanese. However, as a Japanese who has gotten much trust from the world, the effort to gain even greater confidence and to connect with other countries is necessary in order to accomplish this.

 It is also important for people to appreciate and embrace positive feelings towards Japan through the activities of Japanese living in Singapore.

 My speech has been lengthy. In short, I hope that Japanese Association will continue to play its important roles in the past and contribute to the development of Singapore-Japan relations by further deepening it and to expand its scope of activities as much as possible.

 However, these activities would not be possible without the support from the General Committee members as well as our predecessors.
