The final round of the Japanese Speech Contest 2010 held at the Japanese Association's auditorium on 4 July (Sun) showcased a wide range of brilliant speeches. 24 finalists from the 4 categories - Secondary School, Junior College, Tertiary and Open categories presented their speeches before a packed auditorium full of anxious parents, teachers, friends, siblings and fellow speakers. The audiences were treated to a traditional Japanese cultural performance which showcased Shishimai (Japanese lion dance) and Daikokusama (Japanese fortune god) while the panel of judges headed by Mr Teng Theng Dar was deliberating on the results.

She felt that "one of the key success factors in learning a foreign language, other than perseverance and passion, i s t h e o p p o r t u n i t y t o u s e t h e language" and the speech contest is an "excellent way to practise their spoken Japanese".

We congratulate all the finalists and extend a warm thank you to the audience members who took time to support and ensure the success of the event. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the sponsors for their continued and generous support. Special thanks also go to all volunteer tutors who had coached the contestants.
